Austria combines a long higher-education tradition with modern research, arts education and practice-oriented study. International students can choose among public universities, private institutions, universities of applied sciences and university colleges of teacher education across all nine federal provinces. Most programmes are taught in German, while the official Study in Austria database currently lists around 580 English-taught programmes. Students should compare the exact language, curriculum, admission process, tuition and recognition conditions of the programme they intend to join.
AQ Austria is the national quality-assurance agency. Universities of applied sciences and private higher-education institutions require institutional and programme accreditation for state recognition; public universities and other sectors are also subject to external quality-management audits. Always check the current institution and exact programme decision.

Work Rights
EU/EEA citizens generally do not need a separate employment permit. Third-country students holding a Residence Permit–Student may obtain an employment permit for work up to 20 hours per week without a labour-market test, but the employer must apply to AMS before work begins. Study progress and residence conditions still apply.
