Why Study Hospitality and Tourism Management in Croatia? Course Content, Costs, and Career Paths

The programme page describes a mix of business fundamentals and sector-specific study, with at least 800 hours of cooperative education or internship placements.

For a student interested in hotels, destinations, travel services or events, Croatia offers a concrete English-taught option: RIT Croatia’s four-year Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) BS in Dubrovnik. The programme page describes a mix of business fundamentals and sector-specific study, with at least 800 hours of cooperative education or internship placements. It may suit a student who wants management skills and applied experience; it is less suitable if the main goal is a narrowly academic tourism degree or the published tuition is outside the budget.

What you study

RIT Croatia’s curriculum brings together financial and management accounting, finance, micro- and macroeconomics, marketing, communication, entrepreneurship, hotel management and hospitality operations. The official course list includes subjects such as Food and Travel, Lodging Operations Analytics and Management, Customer Experience Management, Event and Restaurant Management, and Strategic Project Development in Hospitality. Students may complete elective concentrations in Entrepreneurship in the Hospitality Industry or Designing Luxury Experience. Check the live curriculum for your entry year: electives and course sequencing can change, and a listed course is not a promise that it will run in every semester.

The college says courses are taught in English and students can study an additional language from German, Italian, Spanish or French. The award is described as two degrees: an American RIT Bachelor of Science and a Croatian 240-ECTS economics degree. That structure can be useful for students who expect to apply across borders, but no degree is automatically accepted for every regulated profession; confirm recognition with the relevant authority where you intend to work.

Costs to plan for

For new undergraduate entrants in 2026/27, RIT Croatia lists annual tuition of €7,800 for EU citizens and €8,800 for other non-EU citizens at a full course load of 12–17 semester credits each term. Citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia are listed in the EU-rate category; verify your classification with the college. Underloads and overloads are calculated per credit. The tuition page states two instalment deadlines for fall and spring, though first-time student deadlines may vary. These figures are tuition, not a complete cost of attendance. Add rent, deposit, utilities, meals, insurance, travel and personal spending in Dubrovnik. Request the current accommodation and scholarship information directly from the college before accepting an offer.

Career direction and fit

The programme lists possible roles including event manager, food-and-beverage manager, hotel sales and marketing, operations manager, hotel general manager and consultant. Those are examples of possible directions, not guaranteed outcomes. The co-op is an important differentiator: the school requires a minimum 800 working hours, typically split after the sophomore and junior years, and says students take the lead in securing placements with institutional support. Ask what placements are available to international students, whether work authorisation is needed, and how the placement is assessed.

Before applying, compare HTM with a broader business degree and with tourism programmes that emphasise economics, sustainability or destination policy. Review the admissions route for your school qualification, English assessment, application calendar and fee category. A good decision is one where the modules, practical requirement, location and total cost all line up with your goals—not simply one based on a programme name.

How to judge the co-op requirement before applying

The 800-hour figure changes the shape of the degree. Before accepting, ask the Dubrovnik programme office how hours are recorded, what counts as eligible work, how placements are evaluated and what happens if an employer ends a placement early. Request the latest co-op handbook and a sample timeline rather than assuming the two summer placements shown in general programme information are the only possible arrangement. International students should separately confirm work-authorisation conditions for any placement and should not infer that the curriculum requirement itself grants immigration permission.

The student’s role in finding a placement also affects the practical value of the requirement. Ask whether the school provides employer introductions, interview preparation, supervisor check-ins, insurance or contingency placement support, and whether students may complete eligible experience in their home country. Confirm the language requirements at a host site: an English-medium course does not mean every hotel, restaurant or destination employer operates in English. These details help estimate both the learning benefit and the personal effort involved.

Map the curriculum to the job you actually want

A hospitality management degree can lead toward operations, revenue, event planning, guest experience, food service or marketing, but those functions use different skills. For hotel revenue or analytics, inspect quantitative modules and the software or data methods taught. For event work, look for project planning, budgeting and client communication. For destination management, compare policy, sustainability and place-based research content. Use the course descriptions and elective list, then ask an academic adviser whether students can select a sequence aligned with that direction.

The curriculum’s business core is useful because tourism organisations need financial, marketing and people-management decisions as well as destination knowledge. It may be less direct for a student seeking a research-intensive geography degree, public policy training or a professional hospitality qualification elsewhere. Compare the required modules, assessment methods and capstone expectations against two alternative programmes before deciding. Do not rely on career lists as placement promises: ask for outcome data only if the school publishes a defined cohort, time period and method.

Read the fee schedule as a multi-year commitment

The published 2026/27 tuition is a new-entrant full-load figure. Ask whether the amount is fixed for later years, how annual updates are announced, and how repeated courses or credit overloads are billed. Add the academic calendar’s expected housing period in Dubrovnik; a short summer placement elsewhere can create overlapping rent or travel costs. Request a complete estimate showing tuition, mandatory institutional charges, accommodation options and any co-op-related expense. This is more useful than multiplying the first-year tuition by four without checking the school’s terms.

FAQs

Is the programme fully in English? RIT Croatia states that HTM courses are taught in English; confirm the delivery language for any elective or support course.

Is the 800-hour placement paid? The programme page states the required experience but does not promise that every placement is paid. Ask the college and read the placement terms.

Does HTM guarantee a hotel job? No. The course lists potential career paths; outcomes depend on a student’s experience, language skills, work eligibility and the hiring market.
