Tbilisi State Medical University is a public, specialist medical university at 33 Vazha-Pshavela Avenue in Tbilisi, Georgia. Its medical-education roots date to 1918; it became an independent medical institute in 1930 and a medical university in 1992. It is authorized in Georgia.
The current approved program listing shows annual tuition of USD 13,500 for the US Medical Doctor program, USD 8,000 for Medical Doctor, USD 7,000 for Dentistry, USD 3,500 for Pharmacy, and USD 3,000 for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Fees can change, so confirm the current amount on TSMU’s official fee page before paying.
International applicants generally need a qualification that gives access to university study, the required application documents, and proof of at least B1 English. Admission also depends on document verification, Georgian qualification recognition, and any program-specific eligibility checks.
First-year applicants normally submit a passport, secondary-school certificate or A-level equivalent, and an accepted English-language certificate. TSMU’s official guidance asks for documents to be translated into Georgian and notarized, usually in two original copies; transfer applicants also need an academic transcript.
TSMU’s approved English-taught options include Medical Doctor, the US Medical Doctor program, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Applicants should confirm that their chosen intake and program remain open before applying.
TSMU’s international-admission guidance requires proof of at least B1 English through an internationally recognized certificate, such as IELTS, TOEFL, or Pearson. Confirm the accepted test, score, and validity period with TSMU for the intended intake.
TSMU’s English-taught Medical Doctor and US Medical Doctor programs normally take six years. The English-taught Dentistry program normally takes five years.
TSMU generally has a fall intake beginning around September or October and a spring intake beginning around March. Exact application deadlines can change and are announced for each cycle, so applicants should use TSMU’s current international-admissions notice.
NEET is not a TSMU admission requirement. Indian students may still need a valid NEET result for Indian regulatory or future licensing purposes, so they should confirm the rules that apply to their admission year directly with India’s National Medical Commission.
TSMU is authorized in Georgia, but no university degree creates automatic medical licensure abroad. Graduates may pursue pathways such as USMLE, PLAB, or India’s applicable FMGE/NExT route if they meet the destination regulator’s current eligibility, examination, internship, and registration rules.
TSMU’s international FAQ does not advertise a general merit scholarship. Its guidance says first-year tuition is paid in full and tuition from the second year may be paid in two equal semester installments. Applicants should obtain written confirmation of any current scholarship, discount, or payment arrangement.
TSMU’s official FAQ describes a dormitory project for international and Georgian students, with planned single and shared rooms. That page said construction was active and anticipated completion in December 2025, but it does not confirm that the dormitory opened; ask TSMU for current availability, prices, and booking terms before relying on it.
TSMU accepts transfer applications and evaluates completed courses before deciding placement and credit recognition. Transfer applicants generally need a passport and academic transcript translated into Georgian and notarized in two copies; additional syllabi or supporting records may be requested.
TSMU’s official guidance estimates about two to four weeks after a complete application is received. Missing documents, translation or notarization issues, qualification recognition, and ministry processing can extend the timeline.
Clinical training takes place at TSMU teaching facilities and affiliated clinical bases. Georgian is not the language of instruction in the English program, but it is taught and strongly useful for speaking with patients during rotations and for daily life in Georgia.
