Student Visa Process
X1 is generally for study exceeding 180 days; X2 is for study of no more than 180 days. Complete the current online visa form and upload or prepare the requested materials through the responsible mission or Visa Application Service Centre. Attend the visa centre or mission if instructed, submit the passport and originals/copies, provide fingerprints when required and pay the local visa and service fees. Regular service is often around four working days after in-person submission, but online review, holidays, peak demand or additional checks can make the full process longer. Hotels normally register guests. If staying elsewhere, the student or host generally must complete accommodation registration with the local public-security authority within 24 hours. An X1 holder must apply for the study residence permit within 30 days of entry. The school usually supports the process, and health or other documents may be required. Decision guidance: Visa decisions are case-by-case; check the latest requirements with the Chinese mission responsible for your place of residence.
